Does anyone have experience of staying in Lucignano. We are looking for the experience of staying in an authentic hill town and being able to enjoy local people and food while travelling each day to other parts of Tuscany. We also need a fairly flat town (once you get there - I know all hill towns require an initial climb) as one of our party has difficulty with steep hills.
We’ve just come back from a week in Tuscany and visited a “country eatery” called Antique Dune which is near Caplbio on Via Delle Basse. (just off SS Aurelia). The best pasta I’ve every tasted! Simple setting with stunning views over the Tuscan countryside. Using meat from free range organic pigs that are bred on the farm, whose breed dates back to the 16th century, along with herbs grwon in the garden, you are in for a treat.
Fantastic pickles, jams etc. to accompany cheeses and homemade salumi, which they sell jars to take home - the Onion relish makes a great present!). Only open Friday to Sunday at the moment, but sure to be open weekdays later in the season.
Don’t let the simplicity of the restaurant put you off. This is the best place to eat, run by a friendly couple with a passion for food and wine. Very reasonably priced too! You can call to book on: 329 396 1722
